Some older cats experience an increase in appetite due to a medical problem. If the increased appetite is associated with weight loss, the cat may have an endocrine problem. Even if the cat is maintaining her weight, a veterinary visit is a good idea to assess the health status of a 15 year old cat. Common ailments include diabetes, hyperthyroidism and kidney disease. Most common problems can be treated and managed if diagnosed early so a veterinary examination and blood work is the best place to start.
