I have a 2 1/2 year old female cat that has a problem with excessive cleaning of herself...

Cats that groom excessively may cause hair loss in multiple areas. Excessive grooming can be due to infection, allergies to food or items in the environment, skin parasites such as fleas and dermatophyte infection and anxiety. A veterinary evaluation is needed and may include a skin scraping, fungal culture, treatment for fleas, food trials for food allergies and perhaps a skin biopsy. If all those are negative, the cat may be anxious about the social situation, lack of appropriate outlets or other things that should be addressed by referral to a veterinary behaviorist.
