This always must be decided by the individual cat’s personality. Some felines do marvelously well on trips, particularly if already used to the car. Will you be on the road and in different hotel rooms the entire two months, or will you settle into one residence for the duration? If one residence, then I’d be inclined to take him along since cats this age seem to do better and are more flexible with change.
But if it were a regular road trip where you were on the road every few days and stayed in different places then my choice would be for him to stay home. Yes, he loves you and is attached to you. But cats also become very attached to places and feel most comfortable in familiar surroundings.
When you return be prepared for slightly different behavior. He’s at the age where his personality will likely undergo a change to an adult version whether you’re gone or not. He will remember you but your bond might not remain identical and will continue to evolve with his maturity.
