I have a nine-year-old Siamese whose "buddy" was put down over three years ago. Since...

Oh dear, this poor kitty sounds quite stressed and concerned. Amitriptyline (Elavil) is used to relieve anxiety and depression, and prescribed for compulsive behaviors, anxiety and fear. I wasn’t aware it came in an ointment but am told by veterinarians that the transdermal medications don’t always work as well as oral administration. Of course, consult with your own veterinarian because if this isn’t working, perhaps an alternative drug would be more effective.
For a non-drug treatment I really like using harp music. Something about the sounds of the harp produce a calming and even sedative effect and have been documented to be effective on both humans and animals. One of the pioneers in this field is Sue Raimond, and her website has more information here: www.petpause2000.com Good luck!
