Should cats have fluoride in their water?? I recently got my cats a drinking fountain and...

We know of no studies that show that water containing fluoride is dangerous to cats. Offering your cat spring or bottled water is a good option as long as the cats will drink the water. It is very important that your cats consume water. Cats originated in very arid, desert climates; therefore their needs for water are different than the dog's need for water. Because of this adaptation to a very dry climate, cats have a lower sensitivity to thirst, and are able to survive on less water than dogs. They may even tend to become slightly dehydrated before they have the desire to drink. To compensate for this, cats have the ability to create highly concentrated urine. But this is not necessarily good for your cat since strong, concentrated urine tends to increase your cat's risk for lower urinary tract problems. Meeting your cats mineral needs should not be of concern if you are feeding a complete and balanced cat food. Diets that are nutritionally complete and balanced will provide your cat with the proper levels of minerals to stay happy and healthy.
