We have two domestic shorthairs that we keep in one room in the house. My fiancé and I...

It’s probably no worse than exclusively confining them to a single room in the house and spending an hour or two daily with them. Much of this depends on the cats and their individual personality and needs. Felines that are very closely bonded to their owners probably want and thrive on more attention rather than less. I can’t say it’s okay. It could be awful, it could be fine, depending on the efforts you make. I have to wonder why you’d consider this--or for that matter, why the cats are confined to only one room of the house? Do one or both of you have allergies? Have the cats damaged furnishings? There are options to help alleviate these challenges so the cats can still be members of the family.
