How do you know when a cat is hungry?

You will usually see behavior changes when a cat is hungry and seeking food. Most cats will be very vocal and seek attention or show interest in other sources of food other than their normal food. If really hungry, some cats will resort to going to the area where the food may be stored and attempt to break open the bag. There are a couple ways to prevent this behavior. The first is to put your act on a regular meal-feeding schedule. Feeding a prescribed amount of food based on your cat’s needs a few times a day (morning and evening) is recommended. Your cat will quickly learn that food will be available at these times and this should lessen the amount of begging, etc. The alternative to this is ad libitum feeding of dry food. In this scenario dry food is available for the cat to eat throughout the day. Many cats can adapt to this type of feeding, however one should be very careful to adjust the amount of food offered in order to keep your cat in the optimal body condition and not become overweight.
