I’m sure that cats vary as greatly on the intelligence scale as do humans, and this big guy could have been damaged during a traumatic birth--or not. Since both of his siblings died early, perhaps all were born with congenital issues that made them different. I can’t guess if his lack of kitty social graces results from mental challenges or other shortcomings. Cats that lack proper feline instruction during kittenhood may lack the proper kitty social skills.
My cat--arguably one of the smartest cats I’ve ever met--also sticks her nose in my dinner plate when she can get away with it. Who knows? Your boy may not be “slow” but simply knows how to work the angles to get his way. Getting him a routine wellness exam by the veterinarian and appropriate preventive care (vaccines, dental cleaning, good food) will ensure he stays healthy and happy. If his siblings died early, then a thorough exam perhaps including blood panels, could be a good way to make sure he’s healthy now and watch for any telltale problems later on. Other than that--love this special gentle giant. Sounds like you found a feline treasure!
