Flaxseed has been receiving a lot of attention lately because of its health benefits in human nutrition. Flaxseed is a great source of omega 3 fatty acids that are very important in human nutrition in relation to heart health, immunity and overall well-being. From a dog and cat perspective we know that pets don't have the same issues that humans do with respect to heart health and cardiovascular disease. Although there may be some health benefits from adding flaxseed to cat foods, there is little published research discussing these benefits. Overall, a very small amount added to your cat’s daily food as a treat is acceptable.
