Hair loss can occur for many reasons and until the underlying cause is known, treatment and cure may be elusive. A cat can lose their hair because of an allergy or skin irritation/infection. In other situations a cat may have fleas that contribute to scratching and hair pulling. Some cats may over groom and pull out their hair due to food allergies. It is also speculated that anxious cats may groom excessively. Hair loss may occur due to a metabolic problem or an endocrine deficiency. A veterinary visit will allow your veterinarian to sort through all the potential differential diagnosis and try to come up with a treatment plan.
