My husband and I have had a multi-pet familly for years. Last May our 17 yr. old cat and...

It is not unusual for a cat to mourn the loss of a companion and for that to change the way the cats interact within a home. In some situations it is useful to confine the cat for parts of every day in a safe and secure place with food, water and a litter pan. This often allows the cat to be calm and safe. It is also essential that the environment have plenty of resources (food, water, litter boxes) in multiple areas to keep the cats spread out. In many cases given enough time the situation will stabilize. In other situations ongoing anxiety does cause the pet extreme distress and needs to be addressed. The first step is a physical exam and if necessary pheromone and/or medication to help decrease the anxiety.
