Our domestic cats are thought to have evolved from small desert cats and are able to conserve water very well especially if they get water from their food. Some cats are very particular and prefer very fresh water. These cats may prefer to drink water from a running water source such as a faucet or a pet water fountain. In some cases adding additional water to the wet food is useful to increase water intake.
