There is a misconception that organic foods are more nutritious and safer to feed than commercial pet foods. By definition an organic food contains ingredients that are grown naturally, either vegetable or animal, without the use of antibiotics, pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. Although Purina® Cat Chow® brand Cat Foods are not considered organic one can be assured that all products are nutritionally complete and balanced and safe for feline consumption. All products are formulated and tested by nutritionists and veterinarians to ensure that all foods meet the complex nutritional needs of cats. Concerns over bacterial contamination (e.coli) are unwarranted with commercial pet foods if the products are processed using recognized manufacturing processes. Canned pet foods use the same commercial sterilization process that human canned foods go through. Dry pet foods are heated thoroughly during the extrusion process to aid in the cooking of the starch and to remove any bacteria that may be present in the ingredients used.
