A female cat in heat may show a variety of symptoms. The most common symptoms include vocalizing in a very demanding loud manner, rolling and rubbing behaviors usually on the ground and elevation of the hind quarters. Because cats are induced ovulators, they may stay in heat or cycle in and out for several weeks unless they are bred. If allowed outdoors at this time they are likely to become pregnant. It is advisable to contact a veterinarian to discuss spaying the cat to prevent unwanted litters of kittens.
