Sorry to hear that Midnight and Cookie are having some issues. While an EKG is helpful, the best way to assess the heart is with an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart). If thickening of the heart muscle is severe enough or other changes in the heart are visualized then medications can be used to control this. You can always ask your veterinarian to copy some information for you regarding heart disease. There are a couple other places to look (you can get to them on-line): The Winn Feline Foundation, the Cornell Feline Health Center, or you can search the Cat Care Library on Catchow.com. You can get good information in these places and a general web search of "feline cardiomyopathy" will give you more information than you'll know what to do with... just remember, the Internet has good and bad information. Hope this helps.
