I just got a cat that is nine-years-old. The owners are moving away and could not take...

Most adult cats usually already use a litter box on a regular basis. When a cat goes to a new home, it helps to create a safe area for them with their food and water bowls, a resting spot and a litter box. Placing them in this area when they are not supervised can help make them feel safe and secure and also learn where their litter box is located. Over time it should become evident that the cat has learned where his toileting area is and greater access to the home may be possible.
