I would like to know what is considered "significant" weight loss in a cat.

If a cat loses at least 10% of their body weight in a short amount of time without being placed on a diet this could be a signal of a problem. Sudden weight loss should always be investigated starting with a veterinary visit and any necessary tests to determine if a medical problem is the cause of the weight reduction.
