Maximus is a four-year-old male I've raised since he was six-weeks-old. He spent some...

While in the studio apartment, Maximus had a rather limited environment and only you for company and stimulation. It’s no wonder you became so close!

That has not changed. Maximus still loves you--but he now has a much larger “world” to explore, with interesting sights, sounds, scents and even people. He’s also now reached “social maturity” at the age of four, so he’s no longer the cuddly paws-on youngster--he’s a grown-up cat.

Instead of being 100-percent focused on you, he now reserves his special times for you but lives in and enjoys his new world. This actually is a much healthier situation for the cat’s emotional stability. Cats can become stressed and upset, even sad, when they rely exclusively on a single person. In those cases, the owner leaving for work or vacationing for a few days can actually be so upsetting the cat becomes sick.

I don’t know where you live, but in my Texas home it’s so hot that even my affectionate cat and dog keep their distance from me. Lap sitting can be uncomfortable during warmer months. Maximus may return to his bedtime habits once the weather changes.
