What do you do when she runs to the food bowl? Speak to her? Follow her there? Refill the bowl after she’s munched? Behaviorists and trainers talk about “chaining behavior” in animals, which refers to one action prompting/cueing another action, which cues yet another and so on. Cats are incredibly attuned to these sorts of routines. So when your fiancé stands up, that starts the chain of behaviors--he stands, cat runs to bowl, is self-rewarded with food and/or additional attention, which chains-links to the next (probably pleasant) behavior.
