I am so sorry to hear that your cat has been diagnosed with cancer. His licking of the plastic bags, or the lack of it very likely has nothing to do with his cancer and is probably just coincidence. Unfortunately, as with people, we don't always know why some cats get cancer and some don't. There's been no implication of plastic bags (or plastic for that matter) with cancer in cats so I hope it will help ease your mind knowing you did nothing wrong. I wish the best for you and your cat.
