Sometimes when my three-year-old male cat sleeps he meows in his sleep. Does that mean...

Cats and dogs do dream. We can’t know exactly what they dream, but like people, they probably relive normal waking activities. Since cats primarily meow at people, I suspect your cat’s dreaming about meow-asking for something (food, to be petted, let out). If an unpleasant dream, vocalizations more likely would be hisses or growls.

I do not recommend waking up sleeping animals. Startling a dog or cat from a dream (or nightmare) may prompt them to react and lash out before fully awake. If a pet seems to be experiencing a nightmare (growls, hisses, whimpers), you can try to gently wake them from a distance by tossing a soft towel over top of them.
