Why can't kittens under eight-weeks-old fly on airplanes?

Although I cannot speak for the airlines, I would suspect they see this as a safety issue. Kittens under 8 weeks of age are more fragile, more subject to stress, more likely to become dehydrated or hypoglycemic if food and water are not available, etc. In a perfect world as well, a kitten would stay with its mother and littermates until 8 weeks as well. If you have more specific questions about policies regarding flying with your cat, I would contact the airline directly.
