My two female cats, Lily and Sally, are sisters from the same litter. We adopted them...

It may indeed be their age has prompted these behavior changes. Cats often go through several distinct personalities throughout their lives. The first during kittenhood tends to be a clueless everybody’s-my-friend rush to meet, greet, and play. Adult personality takes over after twelve months of age with less playing and a bit more caution toward strangers. Once cats reach social maturity at about two to four years of age, their relationships with other cats can often undergo a shift. Finally, the senior years tends to mellow some cats while others turn a bit cranky. Physical changes also can influence how cats want to interact (or not) with each other. Even the weather could be an influence. During the hot summer months, cats may not be as willing to cuddle together as when the temperatures turn chilly.
