Each cat reacts differently to stress but it is not unusual for a boarding situation to be stressful for a cat. How stressful depends on the cat. Stress can be manifested by a decrease in appetite, grooming, drinking, holding of urination and defecation, and decreased movement to just name a few symptoms. All the symptoms you describe could be a manifestation of stress, nonetheless, I would talk to the cattery to tell them what you've seen and also so they can tell you how your boy did. If he was stressed, they should let you know so you can make the best arrangements for your cat in the future. I do think it is a good idea to have your cat examined, especially due to the possible skin rash. The balding spots near his "ankle" could be due to him laying and rubbing the hair off but I would still have him checked out. Hopefully he's happy to be home and is back to himself.
