My cat is 12 yrs old and even though I clean her box everyday and it is full of clean...

When a 12 year old cat shows a sudden change in behavior, the cause may be medical. The first step is a good medical work up to look for any problems that might be contributory to non-litter box use. Blood tests and a urinalysis would be the baseline tests needed. If all is normal, it may help to investigate the environment. Nearly 90% of elderly cats suffer from arthritis which can make getting to their litter box and in and out difficult. A litter box with lowered sides and placed near where the cat spends their time may be helpful. A consultation with your veterinarian will also help determime what other treatments might be appropriate.
